SEO, Keywords and Headings

Optimizing your content for search engines starts with the structure of the page. The first part for this structure is the
attribute that we have already discussed. The second part are the HTML header tags
through to
. These form an outline of the page and a structure amongst which your text in their
paragraph blocks sit.

Big Title

Part One Title

First Sub-Section Title

First paragraph goes here

Second Sub Section Title

Second paragraph

Part Two Title

First Sub-Section Title

Third paragraph

Second Sub Section Title

Fourth paragraph

This structure is great for both Google and the human reader. Its not an accident as the designers of HTML intended pages to be layout in this way. They allowed up-to six levels of heading (
to
) but realistically you will only use headings one to three unless you are writing extremely long content.

Each of those headings gives you an opportunity to use your keywords but don't go mad, there is an ideal amount of keywords. Google will punish the over use of keywords and humans visitors will bounce straight out of your site if headings don't make sense. Keeping things in balance is key to affordable SEO.

In Double Dipping we examine how to optimizing one page for multiple keywords. This is a great way to use those keywords that you looked at when you were choosing keywords but ignored because they only get a few searches a day.
sub-sections titles are a great place to chuck in those miscellaneous keywords.
