Make Money From Web Site Content

How much you earn comes down to how hard you work at building your web site. The more content you have, the more keywords you target, the more you learn about search engine optimisation, the greater your income. There are no tricks or shortcuts that will give you greater success for less effort. Those overnight success stories, the web sites that seem to appear from nowhere and make their owners rich, they are all products of lots of hard work put in by their owners as they refined their skills and built up a loyal audience.

If you want to leave your day job and take up running web sites then you need to invest a lot of time. Ten to twenty hours a week for at least a year before you will be able to quit the day job. This sounds like and is a lot of work but there is a very big upside to it.

Once your web site is earning money, you have the option of stopping work and the money will keep coming in. Over time the amount coming in will drop as you are pushed down Google's rankings by newer, better optimized sites but this can take a long time. Many web pages holding the number one spot have been there for years without any updates. Those sites keep earning with nothing more than a couple of hours maintenance every month.

For example, an article I wrote in August 2007 on Vyvanse has earned me, as of February 2008, $218 USD. It is 550 words long and took me about two hours to write. I also wrote several shorter article to support it but in total, no more than five hours work. That works out about $35 USD an hour and that keeps going up. By the time the article is a year old I expect to have earned $374 or $75 per hour.

$75 per hour is a great rate but it is not the entire story. It doesn't include all the time I spent learning how to do search engine optimization. If doesn't include all the articles I've written that get one visitor a week or the time I've spent tweaking the web site and finding the best affiliates. Making money from web site content is like panning for gold. Its hard work and it is all about making a little bit here and a little bit there until it adds up into something sizable. If you investing in your web site and trust in the long tail you will end up with a nugget of gold.
